Loosing our mind

                                                          Loosing Our Mind

Have you ever felt loosing your attention while reading an article?Or your mind sneaking into a distant world without your prior consent?

If it has, than you are normal, since its very common with Human beings. This is called Mind wandering, not to be confused with day dreaming since the latter is a more conscious approach.

Mind wandering refers to task unrelated thinking. While doing an easy work we tend to loose our attention and get clouded with another thought which has no relation to task at hand.

Mind wandering can be nil while doing a new job or solving a brainstorming puzzle and can be as high as 70% of the time while walking on an uncrowded road or tying shoe laces. It goes with the fact: Easier the task, greater is the distraction. In normal day activities it wanders 30% of the time.

Now mind wandering can be both good and bad for you.

It seems good since it allows one part of the brain to focus on the task, and another to keep a higher goal in mind.So you can tie your lace and may also think about picking your wallet, keys. It can be called, multi thinking. Also according to researchers at UC,Santa Barbara, people whose mind wanders a lot are more creative and better problem solvers.

But on other side of a coin,it can also be a bad trait since mind wandering is an unconscious approach and we may loose some important information while dissolved in our thoughts.

Our present lifestyle is a reason for increased mind wandering.Precise texts like those on Facebook,Twitter have snatched our ability to read long texts without loosing attention.

Doing more cognitive exercises and meditation can improve your concentration and minimize mind wandering

Shown both sides, what do you think,Is mind wandering good OR bad for us?
